In Spanish 1, we did a project over Mexico. Specifically, we researched the populations of states and cities, found and labeled them on a map, and looked up 10 places/things within Mexico that tourists could go and see. Out of the 10, 2 of the locations were in Nayarit, a Mexican state with a population of 1.181 million. In addition, we recorded the data from other states and cities and compared them. This includes:

Mexico City: 8.855 million

Jalisco: 8.256 million

Guadalajara: 1.495 million

Tepic: 332,863

Texas: 28.7 million

Austin: 950,715

This was when our class was reading a book called “Pobre Ana.” In it, the main character, Ana, goes on a trip to Nayarit which ties in with what we did during this project. Overall, I’ve learned much of Mexico, including the population of the biggest city, Mexico City, and the fact that it is the biggest city. Moreover, I’ve learned that the capital of Nayarit is Tepic and the capital of Jalisco is Guadalajara. When doing the slides, I gained insight into the country I would have never known. Something that stood out especially was that there’s a canyon called Copper Canyon southwest of Chihuahua. For me, that would be one of the places I’d love to visit along with Cenote Dzitnup due to me being a scenic-admiring guy. In conclusion, I learned something new about the world I live in. When learning a language, I think it’s just as important to learn about the place it’s spoken.
